Abstract: Hot flashes and vasomotor symptoms occur in approximately 75% of women during perimenopause and in most women these last for one to two years after menopause, however they can continue up to 10 years or more. Additionally, long-term consequences of the lack of estrogenic stimulation are increased risk of atherosclerosis, decrease in bone density, and progressive development of osteoporosis. [excerpt]
