Abstract: The article traces the 150-year history of the Società Filarmonica La Vincitrice of Senglea, founded in 1871 after local enthusiasts began meeting in 1865. Originally established as a musical organization inspired by British military bands and Italian influences, it quickly became central to cultural and religious life in Senglea. The band performed locally and abroad, notably becoming the first Maltese band to play overseas in Catania in 1875. Over time, it changed names—most prominently to Queen’s Own in 1903 in honor of Queen Alexandra during King Edward VII’s visit—before reverting to La Vincitrice AD 1871 in 2006. Despite hardships, including severe damage during World War II, the society remained active in major religious feasts, national events, royal visits, and civic ceremonies. Marking milestones such as its 125th and 150th anniversaries, the band has preserved a rich musical archive and played a vital role in sustaining Malta’s festa tradition and musical heritage.
