Abstract: This study sheds light on the complexities of school culture by exploring existing cultural norms, values and beliefs. It employs a case study approach conducted in a Maltese primary church school to explore the conditions that hinder or facilitate coaching implementation. Using a mixed methods research design, data was gathered by means of an online questionnaire survey and semi-structured focus groups. The findings address the school’s specific context, identifying existing strengths which include a shared mission, strong leadership support, a focus on professional improvement, teacher autonomy, and a culture of mutual support. While acknowledging existing strengths, this study also examines the challenges that require strategic planning and systematic changes. Ultimately, it underscores the importance of collaboration, supportive leadership, open communication, a shared vision, and trust in fostering a coaching culture. Overall, the findings can help the school under study develop a coaching model that specifically addresses its reality, allocating resources effectively and fostering a collaborative culture for implementing coaching effectively. Though based on a single case, this study can also offer guidelines for schools seeking to cultivate a coaching culture and contribute to the existing literature on coaching in educational settings.
