The heart in our art : what love means to six artists

Abstract

In this collective feature six contemporary Maltese artists (Gabriel Buttigieg, Peter Seychell, Joseph P. Smith, Catherine Cavallo, Anna Galea and Debbie Bonello) share their personal interpretations of love through a specific work of art. The article explores diverse themes ranging from romantic passion and physical intimacy to the grief of losing a loved one and the deep bond between humans and their pets. Each artist provides a brief discussion on the underlying concept of their chosen piece offering a multifaceted look at how love is expressed in modern Maltese art.
