| Abstract: | The Slow Film series is an attempt at exploring our relationship with media. The way I have always understood this body of work is that it lies in between performance and playback/screening and an intervention in space rather than in form or even in meaning. Context is derived from the immediate surroundings, the space that is being occupied especially when this is occupied by an audience. As such there is no narrative element, it is the story of the work in the space that is being played out. The movie, if one may call it such is in reality, despite the title of the series, neither fast nor slow, I would explain it as time neutral. The pace moves according to the scenarios' needs, essentially the work does its thing. If the audience ‘enters’ the film they become part of it and time stops being a thing. If the audience observes from the outside, the film never ends, never really changes, moving at a pace that is outside the human scale of time. |
