In this article are discussed the different approaches of adult education. Assuming that adult education is not only focused on education and training for work, we consider adult education as encompassing learning about, for, during and after work. This article points to the emphasis given to the concept of employability and educational vocationalisation, contrasting with the formative initiatives that focus on the emancipation of the worker. To this end, bring up the experience of the Factory Council Movement in Turin, which constitutes one of the best known radical examples of an attempt to organize and educate for a industrial democracy that intended to change the social relations of production. We also treat about cooperative education movements performed in Mondragón, Rochdale, Antigonish and Port, as well as the experiences of education for self-management of Yugoslavia and Malta.
