Abstract: Giovanni Bonello provides a two-part historical account of Malta's last recorded bubonic plague epidemic in 1945. Drawing from national archival files and personal childhood memories, the article outlines the anti-contagion measures enforced at St Luke's Isolation Hospital, explores the controversial use of DDT, and reviews data tracking the 80 cases and 20 fatalities recorded before the epidemic ended in 1946.
