Abstract: The human lifespan has increased, and worldwide, the number of centenarians has increased exponentially. In their exceptional longevity, centenarians have a lower incidence of age-related diseases. Researching the underlying protective molecular mechanisms could potentially lead to discovering molecular targets which could be translated into therapeutic and possibly preventive interventions for healthy ageing.
