| Abstract: | This two part article examines hunting, trapping and fishing in Malta from the time of the Knights of St John to the nineteenth century, showing that these activities were primarily means of subsistence rather than sport. Drawing on historical accounts, it discusses the capture of pigeons, quail, rabbits and other wildlife, as well as traditional fishing methods, illustrating the importance of these practices in the daily lives and survival of the Maltese population. |
