| Abstract: | The recently published multidisciplinary Society for Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement (SPAQI) consensus statement by Oprea and colleagues provides an important step towards weighing up the risks and benefits of perioperative management of patients taking sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i). The well-established benefits of SGLT2is in terms of glycaemic control, cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and renal function are balanced against the risk of euglycaemic diabetic ketoacidosis (eDKA). |
