Abstract: This is written from the narrator's point of view and highlights Great Britain's industrial war effort and the work of civilians on the home front. Key themes of the book (i) The industrial effort: How British factories and workshops were transformed to produce weapons, shells, and military equipment on a massive scale. (ii) The role of civilians: The crucial importance of the workers and women who replaced the men who had gone to the front, keeping war production running. The 1917 French edition includes a preface by Albert Thomas, a French politician at the time and a key figure in organizing wartime production.
