Abstract: The Gozo Party (1947–1950) emerged during a period of constitutional change in Malta, aiming to advocate for Gozo's interests, neglected under centralized governance. Founded by Francesco Masini and prominent Gozitans, it sought to address socio-economic issues, promote local autonomy, and secure representation in Malta's Legislative Assembly. Despite its short life span, the party emphasized Gozo’s needs through initiatives like the Gozo Commission and leveraging its pivotal role in government coalitions. It left an indelible mark on Gozo’s development during the second half of the twentieth century. The Gozo Party's legacy underscored the importance of self determination for Gozo, influencing later political developments and local governance frameworks.
