Epilogue : shaping Malta’s environmental future

Abstract

Over the past decade, ERA has established itself as Malta’s central environmental regulator. From shaping policy to guiding practice, the Authority ensures that environmental considerations are embedded in national decision-making and that Malta’s natural resources are managed responsibly and sustainably.

ERA’s work is grounded in forward-looking stewardship. By integrating environmental priorities into other sectoral policies and through continuous monitoring of environmental performance, the Authority ensures that policies and practices are proactive and aligned with long-term sustainability objectives.

At the core of ERA’s role are guidance, stewardship, and compliance. The Authority clarifies environmental requirements, fosters awareness of sustainability principles, and supports decision-makers in applying environmental priorities. In parallel, ERA ensures that standards are respected and takes action when necessary to safeguard natural resources.
