Compagnia Filodrammatica Carlo Goldoni/Bice Bisazza Collection Community home page Statistics
There was more than one company in Malta during the 20th century which used the name ‘Carlo Goldoni’. The best known was founded in 1928 by two Italian professors teaching at the University of Malta, Alfredo Bartoli and Vincenzo Laurenza. The company was managed by Carlo and Bice Bisazza and remained active at least until the 1970s. Based in Sliema, it performed plays in Italian in major theatres. It was active both before and after WWII. Its defining characteristic was that it always performed in Italian. Its repertoire included classic and contemporary Italian works, works originally written in other languages but translated or adapted into Italian, and works by Maltese playwrights writing in Italian.
Bice Bisazza (1909-1994) was a renowned concert pianist while Carmelo (aka Charles) Bisazza was a theatre director and producer.
