Abstract: | The name “brucellosis” was proposed in 1918 by the American microbiologist Alice Evans to replace “Malta fever” as it was commonly known at that time. According to Hughes (1897), the disease had been described by Hippocrates (460 bc). An accurate description of the disease was made in 1861 by Martson, an assistant surgeon in the British Army stationed in Malta. |
