Abstract: Diabetes Mellitus is a cosmopolitan disease, but variations in the incidence and prevailing type are liable to be encountered from place to place. Clinicians in Malta have long been convinced that the incidence of diabetes in the island was particularly high, but no figures were available to prove or disprove this belief. In 1964, I directed a pilot survey of a significant and representative sample of the population of Malta, which included a rural and an urban area, (Zammit Maempel, ]. V., 1965), and this brief account on Diabetes in Malta is based on my survey findings.
