Mastru Karm Debono

Abstract

Karm Debono was born in Attard and studied art in the Scuola di Belle Arte in Valletta. Many of his works can be found scattered in churches around Malta. However, most of his works can be found in his native Attard. His friendship with Attard vicar Carmelo Azzopardi allowed him to produce some of his best work for the Attard parish church and decorations for the feast of the Assumption. He was also one of the founding members and president of the band club La Stella Levantina. Debono was considered as an all-rounder and he could do anything from sculpture, woodwork, painting and gilding. In this article, the author describes several works attributed to Debono and the church and feast in Attard.
