Abstract: | Malta comprises the Maltese Islands which lie in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, ninety kilometers south of Italy. Malta is one of the smallest countries in Europe with a total population in 2000 of 382,525 living in an area of 316 square kilometers. Standing at the crossroads of Europe and Africa and of eastern and western Mediterranean cultures, this archipelago is a meeting ground between orient and occident. |
