Abstract: Dr. Thomas Balogh, Fellow of Balliol College and Mr. Dudley Seers, Lecturer in Economic Statistics, visitcd Malta in 1955 at the invitation of the Prime Minister, the Hon. Dom Mintofi, to report on the econom:c problems of the Island. Their Report which is only an interim one ·was published in July, 1955. It is a document of some 36 pages of foolscap printed at the Government Press. The two experts were appointed (r) to carry out a general survey of Malta's economic situation. (z) to suggest how Malta's economy can bt; strengthened by capital development plans (3) to indicate to what extent Malta could leg:ti:n'-".tely expect economic aid from Great Britain (4) to state what economic measures should be adopted to iruplement a closer union with Britain in confonnity with the v;ews of the :Maltese Government.
