| Abstract: | With the conclusion of the National Championship finals another successful tabl~ tennis season has come to an end. It was a season full of activities and players were kept busy practically the whole four months in many open tournaments orgailised by various clubs. An innovation this year was the 'Two-day tournament' introduced by R.A.F. Luqa. The four events, including the mixed doubles, were played off on five tables. This change was received favourably and other clubs quickly followed suit. It is a good policy to bring to a finish a tournament in the shortest time possible, but not at the expense of good playing conditions which are so essential to this particular game. Uniformity of tables is a factor which cannot be overlooked. I~; such tournaments when players have to switch over from one table to another the slightest difference in the condition of a table easily upsets even first class players. To mention one instance at Luqa, Jackson, one time Junior Champion of Wales and actual winner of this tournament, just managed to defeat an unknown player by a very close margin. |
