Abstract: Nothing could have shown better the vitality of the Boy Scout Movement after 50 years of its existence - which included two shattering world wars - than the great gathering of 35,000 boys which assembled from all corners of the free world at Sutton Park, near Birmingham, between August 1 and 12. This was the ninth world gathering of Scouts - these mass rallies are called jamborees - and it was held to celebrate the 50th birthday of Scouting and also the centenary of the birth of that amazing man Lord Baden-Powell of Gilwell, who started it all.
