| Abstract: | The need for increasing Malta's food supply in order to make the island less dependent on imports as well as to help the country's economy has long been paramount. Indeed the advantages of self-sufficiency were most forcibly brought home to all of us here in World War II. Following the grant of self-government in 1947, the fishing industry in Malta came more and more under the attention of the authorities who have been naturally impressed by the way the various economic missions to Malta emphasised the obvious potentialities of the local fishing industry. |
