| Abstract: | Film distribution in Malta is perhaps unique in the world. Each of the 53 theatres in the Island shows a new programme every day - in 1956 alone 466 films have been exhibited - and as demand is in excess of supply, everything available in theĀ· market is thrown in, old and new, and thus the quality of film exhibition is sometimes poor. In spite of this fact the audience that pays to go to, the cinema is the largest of any other recreational entertainment, and as many as six million tickets are sold each year. Entrance fees are low, patrons paying 1/6d. and 2/6d. for ordinary films and 1/8d. and 2/8d. for Cinema-scope and allied wide-screen exhibitions. |
