| Abstract: | Though sport in Malta occupies a very important place in the current affairs of the islanders, it seems that the authorities concerned do not seem to have realized the potentialities of sport in the development of tourism. And yet we had a fine opportunity of assessing this factor when Malta was the host country when in I959 the World Underwater Swimming Championships were held at Mellieha. With Maltese teams now taking part for the first time in the European Cup and the Cup Winners Cup during late summer of 1961, we again had a reminder of what sport might achieve for tourism in Malta, provided it is properly organized and developed. |
