| Abstract: | During his recent visit to Malta, the German Ambassador, like others before him, expressed surprise at the relatively high standard of living in Malta. Laboriously built since the end of the war, this standard is now in serious danger, for the life-blood that gave vigor and sustenance to a distorted, artificial but reasonably prosperous economy is being withdrawn. Failing a quick replacement by an alternative but equally sustaining supply, the economy will languish. And so will Malta's living standards. |
