| Abstract: | The 17th century was characterised by a number of Grand Masters who thought of contributing money towards either the building of a number of towers, like Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt, or else towards the building of a project, like Grand Master Nicolas Cotoner. Many other Knights contributed money towards the same cause. It is no wonder, therefore, that a great number of fortifications were built during this century. |
