Abstract: The decision to convert Ħal Far Airfield into an industrial estate (the Airfield, known as the Royal Navy Air Station or H.M.S. Falcon, was used both by the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force before the British Forces from Malta ceased to exist) severes a long link between flying and that particular part of the Island. Flying in Malta, first by seaplane and later by landplanes began there, first at Kalafrana, later at Ħal Far. Ħal Far is said to have been used by land planes for the first time in 1926. It was then just a large field. It had no buildings, no runways or accommodation and was mainly used by aircraft which were disembarked from British aircraft-carriers from time to time, except when the wet weather turned the field into a muddy lake.
