Abstract: Giovan Francesco Buonamico was born in Valletta on 26 January, 1639, the son of Francesco, a French doctor of medicine, who served at the Sacra Infermeria, and Cleria Mensionat, a Maltese. He studied at the Jesuit College and. in 1657, proceeded to the University of Aix-en-Provence, where he graduated in Medicine. He subsequently continued his studies in Paris, Worms, Louvain and Amsterdam, and we are told obtained a second degree in Medicine at Leyden University.
