| Abstract: | Mgr. Maurus Caruana, a practically unknown Benedictine monk, was nominated Bishop of Malta and Titular Archbishop of Rhodes in succession to the late Mgr. Pietro Pace, in January, 1915. He was born at Floriana in 1867 and pursued his studies at the Seminary of Gozo and at St. Ignatius College, St. Julian's. In 1884 he entered the Benedictine Order and was ordained seven years after. For a short period he served as Parish Priest of Fort Augustus, Scotland, and in 1905 was appointed Private Secretary to the Maltese Prelate Mgr. Ambrose Agius, O.S.B., Apostolic Delegate in the Philippines. |
