| Abstract: | Following the institution of the Office of the Inquisition in Malta in 1574 disputes and quarrels between the Grand Masters and the Inquisitors had no end. Often they originated over questions of jurisdiction but differences over place of precedence and breaches of ecclesiastical immunity were a regular occurrence. These were particularly prominent since the time of Grand Master Martin Garzes and had often found their way directly to the Pope. |
