Abstract: | Since the earliest times, man has had a particular loathing for spiders and even today spiders are one of the least known and least studied of all animal groups. However, these eight legged creatures also form part of our natural heritage and are particularly interesting to observe and study. The Maltese Islands harbour a large number of different kinds of spiders, yet, as may be expected, our knowledge of the local species is very limited. To date, there are less than a score of species of Maltese spiders which have been scientifically classified, out of possible hundreds. |
