Faraday Course Malta 2018 - Science and Religion : two views or two realities? Collection home page Statistics

Set in the peaceful setting of Mount St Joseph, Mosta, the first Faraday Course Malta took place between 5 and 8 April 2018. The course was jointly organised by the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion [Cambridge, UK] and the University of Malta and it was open to participants who had an interest in these disciplines.

The themes discussed during the course were: Science and Religion: Clash of Worldviews [Prof Louis Caruana SJ], Religion, Religious Practices in Neolithic Malta [Prof Frank Ventura], Cosmology and Faith [Revd Dr Rodney Holder], Faith and Reason: The Case of the Bible and Archaeology [Prof Anthony Frendo], The Genome of Man: Shaped by the Past and Editing for the Future [Prof Alex Felice], The Environmental Crisis: Ecological, Environmentalist and Religious convergences and divergences [Prof Patrick Schembri], The Mythical Conflict: Have Science and Religion got on better than People Think? [Dr James Hannam] Science and Miracles [Revd Dr Mark Harris], I God [Prof Alexei Dingli], The Church “breathing with two lungs” on Homo Technologicus [Dr Nadia Delicata].

The lectures and discussions helped participants grapple with these and other questions related to the dialogue between Science and Religion. During the course, there was plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion. Once the course was over, participants left with a new network of friends and contacts in the Science and Religion field. This is the first of a series of events that the Faraday Course Malta Organizing Committee has planned. Following the encouraging feedback of the participants, the committee feels that in Malta the interaction between the disciplines of science and religion is of significant interest. Anybody wishing to communicate with the Organizing committee is invited to send an email to the Faraday Course Malta [faradaycoursemalta@gmail.com].
