Description: Prof. Patrick J. Schembri Patrick Joseph Schembri was born at Birkirkara, Malta in 1954. He graduated BSc in chemistry and biology (1975) and MSc in biology (1977) from the University of Malta and PhD in zoology (1980) from University of Glasgow, Scotland, where he was a Commonwealth Scholar. He later carried out research work at the University of Otago, New Zealand (Postdoctoral Fellowship 1981-82), at the University of Delaware, USA (Fulbright Senior Research Scholarship 1985-86), and at the University of Durham, England (Durham Research Foundation Visiting Fellowship 1992). He is a Full Professor of Biology at the University of Malta, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and a Chartered Biologist. His research interests are marine ecology and human impact on Mediterranean small island ecosystems. He has authored some 190 papers in refereed scientific journals and more than 300 other works including reports, conference papers, book chapters and books, as well as numerous popular articles on biological topics.
