Abstract: Water is relatively simple molecule when chemically pure. In nature water is not pure but contains many impurities. These impurities must therefore be eliminated so that water can be used for the various purposes in our food industry. One of the most recent steps human made, to eliminate these impurities is, Reverse Osmosis. This is the most common water treatment system industrially used nowadays, and its popularity is always on the increase because of its performance. Once a Reverse Osmosis plant is installed, adequate pre-treatment and monitoring ensure that this performance is maintained. Treated water is than used in the various needs of the particular food industry. These needs may range from the equipment itself (needed in a production line) to the final addition of water to the end product. It is of a big importance therefore, that water is always treated prior to use, and if possible, why not being reused.
