| Abstract: | A poster presentation regarding the effect of treating sleep apnoea on other co-morbidities. Introduction: Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) is a sleep breathing disorder, in which the person experiences frequent breathing cessation episodes during sleep. The Apnoea Hypopnoea Index (AHI) is the main score for OSA diagnosis and is achieved by a polysomnography test. AHI > 5 represents the presence of OSA. OSA is a common condition and often many patients remain undiagnosed. Untreated OSA is recognised as an independent risk factor for the development of other comorbidities. These include hypertension, stroke, diabetes mellitus and perioperative complications. Aims: To determine the association between different therapeutic classes and the severity of OSA. To determine the effects of commonly used medications on the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy. To increase the awareness of OSA and to educate more the public with the aim to reduce undiagnosed patients. |
