Abstract: It would be correct to say that no history of Maltese emigration would be complete without the mention of Giovanni di Nicolo Pappaffy. His name is among other benefactors who helped Maltese migrants. He himself was an emigrant, for Pappaffy was a Greek, born in Salonica in 1792 and emigrated to Malta in 1810 when he was 18 years old. For the rest of his life Giovanni lived in Malta, where later on he married Vincenza nee Aquilina, a Maltese born in Corsica, so that the Pappaffys both experienced the hardships of emigration.
