Abstract: Inhabitants of all countries use raw material available at hand not only for buildings, furniture and utensils, but also for the making of baskets, curtains, hats and other commodities. In this instance we have a picture showing the process of making canework baskets, the type usually used for carrying fruits and vegetables around for sake. As the population increased, the need for more vegetables and fruits arose, since the amount of land producing it for a small community was not enough, and other areas and farming families kept up the supply. This necessitated transportation on horse drawn carts, and small quantities were carried on smaller carts drawn by donkeys. Eventually the "pitkali" were developed, and farmers carried their produce to such centralized places, where street vendors and hawkers took them at cost price, and returned the containers later on.
