Abstract: I the course of a more or less extensive obstetrical practice, most of us have at one time or other met with tragic cases of severe uterine haemorrhage, at which, despite our best strenuous endeavors and the most approved technique, we have had to admit our utter powerlessness to cope adequately with such formidable emergencies, when we have had to acknowledge our treatment to be ineffective, when we have even had to play the unenviable part of spectators to the sad spectacle of the death of the poor child bearers.
