| Abstract: | The city of Paola has long football history. In fact, by 1894 there was already a team in the town which went by the name of Malta Wanderers. During the last years of First World War, two football teams represented the city of Paola in the competitions organised by the Malta Football Association : Paola Lions and Paola Rovers. In 1916-17, Paola Lions took part in the Cousis Shield competition while Paola Rovers played in the 1917-18 championship. These two teams are considered as pioneers of football in Paola. |
