Abstract: One of the earliest British merchants who came to Malta in the early 19th century was John Watson, who made a name for himself on the island and, in a special way, in the history of St Julian's. Although he was a prominent citizen of Malta, very little has been written about him and his family. From various sources, I have tried to produce some tesserae of his chequered existence.
