Abstract: | What matters to pharmacy? Health problems could give an indication of the immense gulf that exists in the difference of quality of life between the more and the less developed countries. The question of rights and equality could not touch a note more home when one of the recent political developments concerned the appointment of the Maltese candidate to the College of Commissioners in the European Commission, Helena Dalli, to a new portfolio within the Commission specifically for Equality. Perhaps one may dare to suggest that the portfolio for equality was created to mirror the outstanding and unique achievements in Malta in this field, spearheaded by Helena Dalli. Inequality in access to healthcare and, in the case of pharmacy, the question of access to medicines is a longstanding focus of international health agencies.
