Abstract: This research primarily investigates the use of animation to bring about social changes, particularly in promoting gay rights and eradicating the associated stigma and discrimination, from a heterosexual’s outlook. This analysis initially investigates the social perspectives towards homosexuality through philosophy, art, photography and film. The research methodology, which involved questionnaires, in-depth interviews and project testing further explores both the general public and the affected social groups in regard to their own opinions on this issue and own personal experiences. The use of animation to elicit such message to the audience was explored. Upon further research the aspect of moving image in which illusions mould the final image was stumbled upon and was profoundly studied. As the interaction of the audience with the final study is vital for this project’s outcome, the principles of moving image were found to be effective in expressing the message as the audience effectively engages with the exhibited works. In the final exhibition, this lenticular design together with digital illustrations will exhibit the effect of society’s prejudices on the lives of homosexual individuals, thus allowing the audience to reflect on this issue and their own individual actions.
