Abstract: Sex education is a fundamental human right. It equips one with the adequate information needed to be able to make informed decision with regards to their sexual health. The aim of this study was to explore the opinions that parents of secondary school children hold when it comes to the provision of sex education in secondary schools within the local context. The participants consisted of three mothers and one father, all of which had children currently enrolled in secondary school. Data was collected through the use of semi-structured interviews with each individual participant. The data collected in the interviews was subsequently analysed using Thematic Analysis. The results found that the parents were supportive regarding school-based sex education. The participants gave significant importance to the timing of sex education, as well as on who should conduct these sessions. This study will ideally be helpful in facilitating more widespread sex education, as well as further reducing the taboo surrounding the subject of sex and sexuality.
