Abstract: There have been quite a few changes since my article on films in Malta in last year's edition and, unfortunately, some of these changes were more negative than positive. Undoubtedly the biggest change was in the field of local film censorship. On the evidence of films released during this period, the Malta Board of Film Censors (M.B.F.C.) adopted a far more liberal attitude than ever before, resulting in an unprecedented amount of violent and sex films and I am concerned about the effect which this has had on Maltese picture- goers. The age limit was lowered from 21 to 18 years. I do not want to enter into a debate on this topic but it cannot be denied that unfortunately, the new liberal attitude in film censorship clashed rather dramatically with the lowering of the age limit.
