Abstract: The marriage of Carlo of Borbone, Prince of Capua, to his Irish princess, the former Miss Penelope Caroline Smith, was received with disfavour by the Royal monarch of the Kingdom of Naples and the Two Sicilies. This discord eventually seems to have led to His Royal Highness and his family being exiled from Naples. Miss Smith was the daughter of a banker and a relative of Lord Palmerston. [excerpt]
