| Abstract: | The year in the cinema has been one of changes, both positive and negative. Among the latter was the steady deterioration in the standard of films distributed by Xandir Malta. Originally I had hoped that like ItaIy's Italnoleggio Cinematografica, it would put culture before profit. So it was even sadder to observe how it gradually limited itself to distributing the worst type of films available - both artistically and morally. Like rising damp the deterioration continued until Xandir's output became dominated by shoddy productions and morally objectionable films. Indeed the Diocesan Film Commission (DFC) quite rightly condemned several Xandir films while many others were given an ARR rating which is only slightly less than a condemned rating. [excerpt] |
