| Abstract: | Rehabilitation takes all shapes and forms and is applied to all sorts of maladies and stresses humanity suffers from and is subjected to. For the purpose of this contribution it is the rehabilitation of the disabled that is being surveyed. The disabled have been with us since times immemorial; their treatment and care must have been practised in accordance with the usages obtaining throughout the ages, but none can claim that such practices were in conformity with the actual needs of the respective types of disabled persons.
