| Abstract: | Among the positive values which the Maltese cherish is their love for the family. For them the family is the foundation of their life, their well-being and their society. The majority of the Maltese, moreover, regard christian marriage as the basis of the family. These factors underline the very ideals of the Cana Movement, which was founded in 1956 by Father Charles Vella. Years before, while still a student for the priesthood, Father Vella foresaw that the Maltese family was facing a challenge due to the changing circumstances and times which were coming over Malta.
