Abstract: On the cessation of hostilities of World War Two (1939-45) the Air Council Committee on War Memorials made recommendations to the Air Council for the commemoration of those members of the Air Forces of the British Commonwealth and Empire, who, while serving with the Royal Air Force, lost their lives, and have no known grave. These recommendations were approved by the Air Council in February 1948 and were referred to the Imperial War Graves Commission, so that the Commission might plan and build the memorials suggested.
