Abstract: Guzepp Diacono was born at Victoria, Gozo on the 16th August, 1847, son of Angelo and Maria nee Cassar, in a house in Via di Casal Garbo, today 71, Sant'Ursola street. He was baptised on the same day at the Parish - today Collegiate Basilica - of St George by the vice-Parish Priest Dun Lawrenz Cutajar. The child was given the names Guzeppi, Antonju, Serafinu and Gorgi. His god-parents were Wigi Bezzina and his wife Giga. When he was nine (30th October, 1856) he received Confirmation in the Collegiate Matrix - today Cathedral - of Gozo by H.L. Mgr Giuseppe Maria Bravi, Bishop of Sri Lanka. God-parent was Ganni Borg. After his studies at the Seminary, on the 4th March 1870 the deacon Guzeppi Diacono was ordained in the Cathedral of the new diocese of Gozo by H.L. Mgr Anton Grech Delicata, Bishop of Gozo (1867-77). The new priest was the 29th of the new diocese erected in 1864. Guzeppi's brother, Francesco, also became a diocesan priest. [excerpt]
